About this artwork
Art Installation: "My Second Skin"
When we are born, we come into the world with only our body, senses, mind, and skin to experience life. As we grow, layers of experience accumulate around us like a second skin—shaped by victories, mistakes, and connections with others. Each of us becomes a collage, a kaleidoscope, a puzzle, or a patchwork quilt of these moments.

This "second skin"—our experiences—both adorns and protects us. We wear it proudly, like a beautiful garment or even a suit of armor. Yet, it can also restrict us, shaping our fears and insecurities, much like a straitjacket.
This installation represents that duality. The "straitjacket" is constructed from long sleeves and a collage of photographs depicting fragments of my life: people, places, objects, and events that have shaped my personality and character. It both shelters and confines me.

At the heart of the dress is a pocket in the shape of an anatomical heart, containing a crossword puzzle. This puzzle symbolizes the complex intersections of my identity: the countries I’ve lived in, the languages I speak, the relationships I’ve experienced, the names I’ve held, and the professions I’ve pursued. Each word within the crossword is a vital piece of who I am.
This installation invites viewers to reflect on their own personal experiences.

This work is one of the "Emigration and Adaptation" series. You can see other works from this series in my portfolio and store.
