THE set of 9 artworks
Nine Moons
My art project "Fragile Beginnings" has a series of 9 works called "Nine Moons". This series of nine graphic works on paper reflects the transformative journey of pregnancy, each piece corresponding to one of the nine months. Using mixed media techniques—monotype, collage, drawing, pastels, ink, pencil, pen, acrylic, and watercolor—the artworks are deeply personal and introspective. Central to each piece is a print of the artist’s pregnant belly, bordered by a red thread symbolizing protection, an attempt to shield the growing life within from external fears, dreams, and anxieties depicted around it.
Recurring motifs weave through the series: vigilant eyes and watchful birds guarding the embryo, fragments from a biology book discussing conception, genetics, and inheritance, and representations of homes, falling, and waiting. These symbols create a narrative of the fragile and awe-inspiring process of creating life, as well as the artist’s fears, hopes, and dreams that accompany this journey. The red thread, delicately sewn into the paper, forms a powerful boundary between the inner world of creation and the outer chaos of uncertainty. Together, the works serve as a diary of resilience, a testament to the intimate and universal story of motherhood.
